Snow Camp International This truly Canadian experience is designed for chinese students 15-years to 20-years old. The course is completed in a beautiful alpine area near Whistler, British Columbia. Our curriculum includes mountain trekking, alpine camping and glacier walking. Students learn how to set up tents, use fuel and gas stoves, cook their own meals, wilderness first aid, and navigation using natural features. We hike through old-growth forest stands of Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Mountain Hemlock and Balsam Fir and camp in lush alpine meadows filled with wildflowers and mountain heather. Our high camps are surrounded by towering peaks covered in snow and ice making everyday a breathtaking experience for each. We spend 5-days on the mountain learning mountain skills and 10-days total time in Canada.

Participants will be greeted on arrival in Canada and lodged in Vancouver their first night. We spend two more days in Vancouver finalizing gear and completing a one-day training hike to test equipment before committing to the mountain. Students will learn how to pack their equipment and personally re-package food for their 5-day expedition. While in Vancouver, students will enjoy meeting local Vancouver people, other Vancouver Area Scouts and some wonderful home cooked meals with english speaking hosts.

Snow Camp begins with a drive to Whistler, British Columbia where we spend one-night before climbing to our alpine camp. That afternoon students have the afternoon to visit Whistler and see its world famous ski resorts. We stop on the drive to view the many scenic areas along the Sea-To-Sky Highway including the Squamish Chief, Shannon Falls, Mt. Garibaldi, Howe Sound and Black Tusk.

Training Location Consideration will be given to location of Snow Camp with final selection based on student experience, abilities and weather. Our camp is conducted entirely in Canada requiring no special visa for Chinese Entry into the country. First choice is given to the lovely mountain area on the side of Mt. Wedge, a beautiful high snow and ice covered peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park located just north of Whistler Village. The area contains lush alpine meadows filled with colourful wildflowers, sweet water streams, and striking views of Mt. Wedge and Wedgemount Lake. Wedgemount Lake is a lovely deep, cold-water lake whose waters are wonderfully soft lavender-blue in colour.
